# Render deploy notifications on your phone

> Get a push notification when a Render deploy finishes, loud when it fails and quiet when it succeeds, plus image pull failures and blocked builds.

- Company: Render (https://www.justpush.io/recipes/render)
- Event: `deploy_ended` (Deploy Ended)
- Tags: Hosting & deployment, Deployments
- Install: https://studio.justpush.io/recipes/render/deploy
- Web page: https://www.justpush.io/recipes/render/deploy

## Setup

1. Click Install in Studio and sign in. The recipe is added to your account and you get a personal webhook URL.
2. In the Render Dashboard, open your workspace's Integrations > Webhooks and click + Create Webhook (Pro plan or higher, workspace admins only).
3. Give it a name and paste your webhook URL (shown in Studio after install) as the URL.
4. Select the Deploy Ended event and click Create Webhook.
5. In the Render Dashboard, open **Integrations → Webhooks → + Create Webhook** (Pro plan or higher) with the URL above, and select:
6. **Deploy Ended**: every finished deploy (failed, succeeded or canceled)
7. **Image Pull Failed** and **Pipeline Minutes Exhausted** (optional)
8. Render's webhook payload is thin: it carries the service name and the deploy status, but no commit, branch or error message. Tap **Open Render** for the deploy logs.
9. On a **Pro** workspace you get a single webhook URL, so one integration receives every event you select; the recipe ignores the events it doesn't handle. Scale and Enterprise workspaces can add a webhook per recipe.
10. Render signs deliveries with Standard Webhooks headers (`webhook-signature`), but JustPush doesn't check that signature yet, so keep your endpoint URL private.

## Code

Studio calls `handleRequest(request)` with the incoming webhook (`{ method, headers, body, query, raw }`) and sends the message object it returns. Returning `null` sends nothing.

```js
// Render → deploy ended (plus image pull failed and pipeline minutes exhausted)
// Fires when a Render workspace webhook sends deploy_ended with data.status
// succeeded, failed or canceled.
// Docs: https://render.com/docs/webhooks
// deploy_ended statuses, their labels and how loud to be.
const STATUSES = {
    // A failed deploy needs you soon: the new version isn't live.
    failed: { emoji: "❌", verb: "deploy failed", message: "Check the deploy logs in Render", priority: 1 },
    // Good news and cancellations are routine.
    succeeded: { emoji: "✅", verb: "deployed", message: "The new version is live", priority: -1 },
    canceled: { emoji: "⏹️", verb: "deploy canceled", message: "The deploy was canceled", priority: -1 },
}
// Other deploy-blocking events this recipe also handles.
const EVENTS = {
    // The image-backed service can't deploy until the image pulls.
    image_pull_failed: { emoji: "❌", verb: "image pull failed", message: "Render couldn't pull the Docker image from its registry", priority: 1 },
    // Builds are blocked for the whole workspace until minutes are added.
    pipeline_minutes_exhausted: { emoji: "⛔", verb: "build blocked", message: "Your workspace is out of pipeline minutes for this billing cycle", priority: 1 },
}
}
// Only link to real http(s) URLs.
    // Guard: only deploy_ended with a known status, or the extra events above.
    const event = body.type === "deploy_ended" ? pick(STATUSES, data.status, null) : pick(EVENTS, body.type, null)
    if (!event) {
        console.log(`Ignoring Render "${body.type ?? "unknown"}" event (status "${data.status ?? "none"}")`)
        return null
    }
    // Render's payload is thin: the service name is all we get besides IDs.
    const name = typeof data.serviceName === "string" && data.serviceName ? data.serviceName : "Your service"
    return {
        title: `${event.emoji} ${name} ${event.verb}`,
        topic: "Render",
    }
}
```

### Can I change what the notification says?

Yes. After install the recipe's code is yours. Edit it in Studio and test it against the sample payload before you save.
